“Human rights is a universal standard. It is a component of every religion and every civilization” SHIRIN EBADI

INSPIRED BY - SHIRIN EBADI

The Iranian political activist, lawyer, former judge and human rights activist who was awarded the Noble Peace Prize for her service to mankind. Shirin grew up in Tehran. She was very bright and studied law at the university. She then took the entrance exams for the department of justice and became the first women in the history of Iranian justice to serve as a judge. However the Islamic revolution of 1979 forbid women from serving as judges and sadly despite public protests Shirin was dismissed and given clerical duties instead. She remained determined and finally in 1992 she succeeded in obtaining a lawyer’s licence to set up her own law practice. She was involved in many dangerous cases and represented many journalists accused or sentenced in relation to freedom of expression. She is a prolific writer and an inspirational leader holds free lectures in children’s rights, women’s rights, human rights and the rights of refugees.
