INSPIRED BY - Elizabeth I

The flame haired British monarch, who ruled over England and Ireland from 1558-1603. Her tremendous defeat of the Spanish Armada became legendary as one of the greatest military victories in England’s history. Elizabeth was the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. Her mother was executed when Elizabeth was only two and Elizabeth was then declared illegitimate. She was not intended to rule, only becoming queen after the death of her half sister Mary. Throughout her life she was known as the virgin queen as she never married or had children, instead she was dedicated to her country. She forged England into a strong and independent nation, liberally supported the arts, including playwrights such as William Shakespeare and also promoted world exploration. She was also somewhat of a fashion icon, she wore white lead paint on her face, with piecing red lips and extraordinarily elaborate attire. It is said that it took 4 hours a day to dress and undress her.
