The free-thinking Japanese multi-media artist, singer, song writer and peace activist. Yoko was born in Tokyo, Japan into an aristocratic banking family. She spent some of her childhood in San Francisco before moving back to japan in 1937. When Yoko was 18 the family moved to New York where she studied at the prestigious Sarah Lawrence college, before leaving to elope with her first husband. She began her career as a conceptual artist and was known for her performance art during the 1960s. In one conceptual event called Cut Piece aimed as disregarding all materialism- members of the audience were invited to cut off her clothing until she was naked. During this time she met and fell in love with John Lennon, they both left their marriages to be together and were married until his tragic murder in 1980. They were a symbol for free love and campaigned tirelessly for peace across the world, and their interracial marriage shown as a beacon of inclusivity and equality.
Weaved, embroidered and Hand finished in England using the finest British spun yarns. For each jumper purchased we donate 100 school meals to children living in poverty.
