Hello Funders, sadly across much of the world today, girls are still the poorest citizens but we are here to make a change, oh yes we will succeed. This inspiration story puts a little happy in our day so we thought we would share.
A year ago, Fatouma would watch other children run to school while she stayed behind to care for her younger brother and sister. A mere £13.40 per year helped this shy eight-year old Senegalese girl take her place among students in the local school.
“When I wake up in the morning, I get ready to go to school very quickly because I know that good food is waiting for me” Fatouma
Poor children are enrolling and staying in school, enticed by the daily meal they receive. Research shows that when children are given school meals, attendance doubles and performance greatly improves too, that’s pretty amazing. We know that girls with just a few years of education have fewer children, have them later in life and are better prepared to care for and educate them. For many children a school meal is the only meal they will have all day, its not a problem we will face or even ever encounter but we are one world, their problem is our problem. #make a change.
