The story of how a tiny English knitwear brand stitched its way into pop-culture history.
There are moments in every brand’s story that feel almost too surreal to be true. For us at FUND, that moment arrived on an ordinary rainy Tuesday when the world suddenly spotted Taylor Swift wearing our bright green Utter Nonsense jumper.
But the real magic began long before that—months earlier, in the quiet mills of Scotland, in sketchbooks filled with eccentric ideas, and in the belief that a single jumper could carry meaning, humour, heritage… and hope.

It Starts With a Sheep (Of Course)
Every FUND jumper begins not in a studio, but on the rolling hills of Scotland. The Utter Nonsense jumper uses 100% luxury Scottish lambswool, spun with care by one of Britain’s oldest yarn mills. The wool is soft, sustainable, and naturally warm—made for sweaters that outlive trends, seasons, and even celebrity moments.

We choose Scottish lambswool because of its heritage, its quality, and its character. It’s as British as eccentricity itself.
The Birth of “Utter Nonsense”

Some designs arrive quietly. Utter Nonsense arrived with a cheeky grin.

The phrase came from FUND’s love of all things tongue-in-cheek—a nod to the wonderfully absurd, the slightly chaotic, the moments where life doesn’t quite make sense… but you carry on anyway.

The design was sketched by our founder Rachael by hand in our studio, then carefully digitised so our embroiderers could translate every curve and flourish into stitches. Every stitch is considered and adjusted.

Bright green felt like the perfect canvas: bold, offbeat, and just the right amount of “what on earth is that?” Pink embroidery sealed the deal.
Suddenly, a cult classic was born.

Handmade in Britain, One Jumper at a Time.
Every FUND jumper is knitted and finished in Britain, with each piece passed through the hands of skilled makers who understand the value of craft, patience, and precision.

The jumpers are knitted slowly using a single thread so there is zero waste. Because the wool is very fine, each jumper contains more than double the stitches of a standard sweater. This creates sweaters that last a lifetime, it’s the way knitwear used to be made. Each jumper is then hand-linked, pressed, checked, washed twice and then embroidered with its statement.

We embroider every slogan individually. No mass production. No shortcuts. Just stitches full of character. It takes over two hours of careful hand craft to embroider.
And with every jumper sold, we fund 100 school meals for children living in poverty.
A Quiet Cult Following

Even before its celebrity moment, the Utter Nonsense jumper had become something of an insider secret.
It had been spotted on national treasures, loud uncles, quiet introverts, gangster grannies, artists, rebels, and people who just enjoy a good giggle.

It became the jumper people asked about in pubs, on trains, at Christmas parties.
Its eccentricity had charm. But nothing prepared us for what was coming next.
The Day Taylor Swift Wore It

We didn’t know. Nobody told us. There was no email, no stylist request, no polite memo from team Swift.
One morning, the trailer for Taylor Swift’s Disney+ docu-series dropped… and there she was:
Global superstar Taylor Swift, in our bright green Utter Nonsense jumper, recording vocals for Midnights in a studio booth.
For a small British brand, the moment was utterly amazing.
The jumper is set to appear again in a full episode of the six-part documentary—where Taylor will be talking about her own creative journey.
What It Means For FUND

We are still a tiny British brand with a tiny team, tiny budgets, and enormous dreams.
Our mission has always been the same:
Create eccentric English knitwear embroidered with meaning, made slowly, made beautifully, and made to last.
Taylor Swift didn’t change our mission—but she gave it a megaphone.
The Utter Nonsense jumper has now become a symbol of everything FUND stands for:
craft, humour, heritage, philanthropy, and a refusal to take life too seriously.
And as for us?
We’re knitting faster.
Much faster.

From Sheep to Swift – And On to You.
Every jumper still begins in Scotland.
Every stitch is still made in Britain.
Every sale still funds 100 meals for children.
And every slogan still carries a story.
But now the story includes a moment we will never forget:
the day the world’s biggest pop star wore a little British jumper… some would say it’s Utter Nonsense but to us, it makes perfect sense.
